The March of the Ducks And A Perfect Birthday Weekend!
It was my husband’s birthday weekend, so – of course – it was his call where we celebrated. His choice: The Peabody Memphis. Don’t quote me on this…but he made a perfect choice!
This big, beautiful building really is the “South’s Grand Hotel” – it’s charming, beautiful, and overflowing with Southern hospitality.
We got in late on a Thursday night (around 9pm) and got checked in quickly and efficiently. We were happy to find that our room was far from the elevators, elegantly furnished, spacious, clean, and quiet.
We love some random things: animals, music, and historic buildings. And we have a love for Elvis and history – so the first thing we did after checking in was buy tickets to the Hotel History Tour.
We paid $10 per ticket (what a steal) and were told to come down to the March of the Ducks at 10 am the next morning, then head over to the valet station and wait for the Duckmaster to take us on a tour of this Grand Southern Charmer.
We had such a ball seeing the March of the Ducks! Smiles all around. When it was over, we met up with Duckmaster Kenon at the meeting spot and off we went to learn all about this hotel’s history, people, and some architectural stuff. An absolutely wonderful time!
The next day, we took an Uber to Elvis’s place and spent the early part of the day touring Graceland. Then, we took another Uber to Beale St. to see more bands and have a few cocktails.
Since Beale St. is just a couple of blocks away, we were able to get back to the hotel in time for Afternoon Tea! Yes, it’s a proper English Tea with savory and sweet choices. And it was legit awesome. How did we know? Because my mother-in-law is English!
We weren’t sure where to go for dinner, but there are so many places to choose from right in the hotel: a fancy Italian steakhouse, a Traditional French restaurant, The Corner Bar (with Jack Daniels inspired food), or room service.
We were still stuffed after Afternoon Tea, so we chose The Corner Bar. Not only because the food had Jack Daniels in it (if that’s wrong, I don’t want to be right), but they had a piano bar and live music on Friday nights. Music, burgers, and Jack Daniels? Sign me up!
On Saturday, (the actual birthday), I sent him for a massage at the hotel spa.He came back in time to see the ducks march again. One of those perfect memories.
Our upgraded room featured turn down service and chocolates on our pillows! The Peabody Memphis was amazing, the staff was kind and attentive, and it’s perfectly located. We couldn’t have asked for a better birthday weekend.
The hotel … the sites … the experiences. We’ll surely be back for more music, duck marches, and fun!
