The Olde Harbour Inn – Savannah, GA

History, Charm & Ghosts!

We decided to take our son on yet another college tour, but this time, we were headed to Savannah, GA. He wanted to see the Savannah School of Art and Design, and my husband and I wanted to see the town. I’m so glad we chose to stay at The Olde Harbour Inn!

First off, we got a two-bedroom suite, and my son appreciated the extra privacy of his own hotel bedroom! My husband thought our room was spacious and charming. Plus, the Inn supplied a nightly stash of Klondike bars – so greatly appreciated by all!

The kitchenette made our suite much more comfortable and homey. A definite bonus! We don’t own a dog, but The Olde Harbour Inn is dog-friendly. Plus, the free breakfasts helped get the day off to a great start.

Secondly, location, location, location. It’s a must when it comes to picking a hotel, and The Olde Harbour Inn had it. We were close to everything, and our room had a great river view! Truly lovely!

It was a bit noisy … ‘cause it’s right on the river. And the classic, historic building had thinner walls than newer construction! But we didn’t mind! We’re from Manhattan, so we can deal with noise. Luckily, the hotel provides you with a noise machine and ear plugs.

We loved that we were right in the heart of Savannah and didn’t need to move our car from the parking lot (very cool). When we checked in, we bought trolley tickets right there. We jumped on and off all afternoon!

Along the way, we saw all the squares and enjoyed all the gardens. Our son has a photography project for his AP Art class that’s all about architecture. It seems like every block is filled with gorgeous houses all original, dating back to the Civil War era. A+ all the way!

After that, we stopped at three museums (one ticket price includes the Owens-Thomas House and Slave Quarters, the Telfair Museum, and Telfair Academy). Next, we went downtown for some window shopping.

After we worked up a big appetite, we headed to The Olde Pink House Restaurant. Good thing we made reservations – the place was packed. Had a wonderful table, terrific service (thank you Rick, you rock man!) and gorged on fried chicken and fried green tomatoes. Authentic! Southern! Feast!

We went back to the hotel just in time for wine and munchies (free spread! Count us in!). We got to know other travelers (shout out to Bob and Kim from Long Island!) and had an awesome time.

Our son was knocked out from eating his weight in fried chicken and only wanted to rest. So, my husband and I did a “grown-ups only” haunted pub crawl ghost tour.

Greg was an amazing guide. He told us spooky stories while we drank, laughed, and went pub hopping. An absolute blast! We learned a lot of history and laughed so hard. Totally worth it.

The next day, we took a tour of the Savannah College of Art and Design with our son. My son like the school AND the pretty co-ed leading the tour.

Every day in Savannah was an adventure, and the Olde Harbour Inn was perfect for us. Whether or not my son decides to go to school there, my husband and I will be back!
