After my first step inside the Oxford Hotel Bend, I knew I would like it.
It’s stylish and modern (the lobby was beautiful – lots of stonework and wood), yet it wasn’t overdone. And the location could not be beat … right in the middle of Bend’s action.
It’s now one of my favorite hotel stays in the Pacific Northwest.
A Hotel Just As Cool As The Town.
Oxford Hotel is a AAA Four-Diamond property that’s comfortable and doesn’t come off as overly formal.
Downtown Bend is energetic and lots of fun to explore. The Oxford fits in nicely with this cool, sophisticated town. One step outside the Oxford and I realized I was surrounded by coffee shops (the Sparrow Bakery and Ocean Roll are musts), boutiques, restaurants, and riverfront scenery.
A Super Comfortable Room With Unique Touches
The room itself was spotless, stylish, and extremely comfortable. But what really stood out was how the Oxford includes little touches that make the stay feel personal.
I smiled when I saw a pillow menu. If you’re picky about pillows or have trouble getting comfortable while sleeping, this is a bonus. Did I sleep better with a specially selected pillow? Yep. 😊 Oh, also helpful with a great night’s sleep … the room was wonderfully quiet.
Then there’s the soap menu. It featured local handcrafted products from the Bend Soap Company. It’s such a small detail, but it helps make you feel connected to the area.
And here’s the coolest part. They offer complimentary Breedlove guitars, handcrafted in Bend, that you can play. I’m not a professional musician, but I can strum enough to have fun. Sitting in the room playing a guitar made in the same town I was visiting felt special … like some of the town’s history was baked into my stay.
And then there was more musical pleasure as a Victrola turntable and vinyl record collection were available for complimentary use. In a world where everything is Bluetooth and streaming, it was awesome to put on a record the old-fashioned way and let the music fill the room. It’s been decades since I’ve used a turntable.
Who doesn’t hate standing on ice cold floors in bare feet? Well, the bathrooms had heated floors which made mornings and getting up in the middle of the night more comfortable.
Hotel Amenities That Actually Matter
Oxford Hotel Bend’s amenities were super helpful and helped make the stay exceptional.

- Nightly turndown service (upon request), which made the stay feel extra polished
- Fitness center with a Peloton bike, for anyone trying to stay on track. Plus, I took advantage of the steam room and sauna, while my wife enjoy the hot tub.
- Complimentary washer and dryer, which is incredibly helpful for longer trips
- Valet parking (about $32 per night), smooth and professional
- Complimentary universal and Tesla charging when using valet services
- Concierge services, great for planning day trips
- Seasonal complimentary cruiser bikes, which is basically Bend’s love language
- Fresh cookies at the front desk, a small, yet, appreciated touch
- Complimentary local shuttle, which makes getting around easier
It’s also a 100% non-smoking hotel. Cleaner, fresher air? … Yes, please!!!
Pets can make traveling harder (which is why my wife and me don’t have one) … but the Oxford is pet friendly. Folks can bring up to two dogs or cats for $39 per night. The Oxford even supplies a pet amenity package with a bed, bowls, and treats. Thoughful
The hotel is also ADA-compliant, with accessible rooms available, which is important for travelers who need those accommodations.
ROAM: A Lovely Dinner I Won’t Forget
ROAM is a major reason I’d stay at Oxford Hotel Bend again.
The restaurant is driven by Chef Bryant Kryck’s approach to Modern American cuisine, and it’s exactly the kind of menu you want while traveling, fresh, seasonal, and rooted in local ingredients.
ROAM is warm and lively. This is a place you could dress up for or look casual.
I was impressed with ROAM’s delicious selection of appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, and main dishes. For an appetizer I had the Cast Iron Brussels (and I added the fig bacon jam) and it was wonderful. My wife and me shared the Olympia Provisions Charcuterie (we loved it). Then we ordered the Ginger Scallion Cedar Plank Salmon and the Wagyu Bolognese. We were thrilled with everything.
Their wine list is eclectic, the craft beer options are what you’d expect in Bend (in other words: great), and the cocktails are creative without being gimmicky.
Between ROAM and the walkable food scene outside the hotel, I felt like I could’ve spent the entire weekend just eating my way through downtown.
Downtown Bend Is Fun
One of the biggest perks of staying at Oxford Hotel Bend is that downtown is basically your playground.
Restaurants I Loved (or Immediately Wanted to Try)
Bend’s restaurant scene punches above its weight. I kept stumbling onto places that looked like they belonged in Portland or Seattle.
A few standouts worth mentioning:
- Spork – Globally inspired comfort food. I loved the Shrimp & Pork Belly Yellow Curry.
- Zydeco Kitchen & Cocktails – New American dishes and strong cocktails
- Dear Irene – Seasonal, creative, and very Pacific Northwest
- BOSA Food & Drink – Italian-French fusion with a great wine pairing atmosphere
- The Hook & Plow – This seafood place was my wife’s cup of tea. She had the Crab Cake Sandwich with Pineapple Slaw and raved about it.
- McKay Cottage Restaurant – A beloved brunch spot slightly outside downtown
If you’re a foodie, Bend is the kind of place where you’ll want to plan your day around meals. And if you’re not a foodie, Bend might turn you into one.
Don’t Miss The Great Craft Beers
You can’t talk about Bend without mentioning beer.
Bend is famous for its brewery scene, and there’s even something called the Bend Ale Trail, which is basically a beer-lover’s dream. Breweries, tasting rooms, pubs are everywhere. It’s simply part of the town’s personality.
Shopping in Bend: Boutiques and Hidden Gems
Downtown Bend is surprisingly fun for shopping. It’s got a mix of stylish boutiques, outdoor gear shops, and small, artsy storefronts that make wandering an adventure.

High Desert Museum
This is a great regional museum. It blends wildlife exhibits, natural history, and cultural storytelling in a way that feels engaging, not dusty.
Deschutes Historical Museum
Located downtown, this museum is inside a historic schoolhouse and gives a real sense of Bend’s history (from Native American heritage to pioneer life). It’s small enough to enjoy without feeling like a time commitment, but interesting enough to make it worthwhile.

This scenic trail runs along the river and is perfect for walking, biking, or photo taking. If you’re staying at the Oxford, it’s incredibly easy to get to.
Tumalo State Park
Just a short drive away, this park is ideal for hiking, swimming, fishing, and relaxing. It’s peaceful and gives you a quick nature escape.

If you have a car (or use a tour service), Bend has some truly unforgettable landscapes.
Smith Rock State Park
Smith Rock is jaw-dropping. The towering rock formations look like something out of a movie, and the hiking trails are some of Oregon’s best. Even if you’re not a climber, you’ll appreciate the scenery.
Newberry National Volcanic Monument & Lava River Cave
This is one of Bend’s most unique attractions. You can explore volcanic landscapes and even walk through a mile-long lava tube cave. Bring sturdy shoes and a flashlight. It’s dark, chilly, and absolutely cool as heck.
Pilot Butte
Pilot Butte is a volcanic cinder cone rising above Bend, and the views from the top are incredible. You get panoramic scenery of the town and the Cascade Mountains. It’s one of those “easy win” adventures that doesn’t take much time but delivers a huge payoff.
Tumalo Falls
If you want a photo-worthy waterfall moment, Tumalo Falls is it. This gorgeous spot makes for a perfect half-day nature outing.
The Oxford, I’m Glad I Found This Place
At my trip’s end, I realized the Oxford Hotel Bend was part of what made my time so enjoyable.
It’s hard to find a place that’s luxury and and fun.
Between the thoughtful room amenities, the excellent dining at ROAM, the downtown location, and the easy access to nature, the hotel felt like the ideal “home base” for experiencing Bend the right way.
At the Oxford I felt like I was in the middle of the action, while still being able to come back to comfort and quiet.
