The Buccaneer Resort in the Heart of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands

The Caribbean Buccaneer Resort in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands is a spectacular 340-acre beachfront destination deserving of its Travelers’ Choice Award Winner recognition.

The Buccaneer Resort: Multiple Private Beaches Just For Resort Guests

My words can’t justify the tranquility of not one but three secluded beaches amidst the stunning Caribbean Sea and Christiansted Harbor in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. I’d say there are breathtaking Caribbean views in every direction for miles and miles but in reality, The Buccaneer Resort grounds encompass acres and acres plus multiple beach areas, pools, restaurants, golf course, spa, tennis courts, a water sports activity center, a spa, and a fitness center.

There are so many reasons to stay at The Buccaneer from a romantic getaway or honeymoon to a fun family vacation or even make a business venture more exciting. That’s the great part about the resort as there are so many great perks, something for everyone.

The Caribbean’s Longest-Running Family-Owned Resort

If you didn’t know, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands is brimming with history dating back to 1653, making the location of The Buccaneer Resort considered a legendary place. You see, before it became the first hotel in St. Croix to be built and family owned and operated for three generations, the area featured the governor’s estate, a sugar factory and mill, then later the area was used for growing cotton and raising cattle. It was not until 1947 that it was founded as an 11-room inn by the Armstrong family. Today, The Buccaneer is a completely modern hotel that continually exceeds expectations of guests.

Family Friendly Beach Resort With Lots of Activities and Water Sports

Named “One of the Best Family Resorts” by Forbes, The Buccaneer offers three secluded white sand beaches, two freshwater pools, and endless beach activities and games for guests of all ages to enjoy.

Beaches include:

  1. Mermaid Beach – The Buccaneer’s main beach is where we spent most of our 5 day getaway. We found it convenient to order food and beverages from The Mermaid Restaurant at the beach and enjoy a variety of beach sports including Frisbee golf, soccer, corn hole, ping pong and more.
  2. Grotto Beach – Features beautiful white sand in addition to the beachfront Grotto Pool and Beauregard’s on the Beach restaurant.
  3. Whistle Beach – Whistle Beach is located over a huge hill, typically looked upon favorably for its seclusion and often the site of weddings.

As if the most beautiful beaches onsite weren’t enough of a perk, I thought receiving complimentary use of ocean kayaks, paddleboards, snorkeling gear, floating mats, beach toys and games was a great feature.

Fitness Center – Guests have 24/7 access to the onsite fitness center offering treadmills, ellipticals, free weights, and more. Or you can jog, run, or walk outdoors on a two-mile jogging trail.

18-Hole Golf Course – We are golfers so we really appreciated the 18-hole par-70 course offering ocean views of the Caribbean Sea and coastline from 13 holes. In addition to a Pro Shop and restaurant, we discovered the ONLY golf simulator on St. Croix offering play on 93 courses worldwide.

Eight Tennis Courts – Tennis enthusiasts will appreciate the six Plexipave courts and two Tedelgrass courts, with an opportunity to play under the lights at night.

Wellness and Spa – The spa offers a variety of massage therapy services to benefit physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.

Fire Dancers (Yes, FIRE!) – Experience the vibrant St. Croix culture with dazzling fire dancers, colorful “Moko Jumbies,” and vibrant musical performances.

Dining Onsite at The Buccaneer Resort

There are three beachfront restaurants at The Buccaneer, each capturing the Caribbean flavors of St. Croix.

The Terrace – Located in the Great House, The Terrace offers covered, open-air dining with views of the Caribbean Sea, Christiansted Harbor, and the golf course. The breakfast buffet offered us a huge variety of food but the French toast and fresh fruit was my favorite.

The Mermaid – Located right off the sand, featuring casual beachfront dining with local flavors. We enjoyed the Crispy Chicken Wrap and the Buccaneer Wings from the beach menu.

Beauregard’s on the Beach – Offers intimate waterfront dining under a thatched roof on the sands of grotto beach. Live entertainment on Friday nights. The Chipotle Chicken tacos and cheesecake for dessert was complimented by the most delicious Pina Colada and Lime in the Coconut cocktails.

The Martel Lounge – Enjoy cocktails after-hours while enjoying the majestic St. Croix sunsets and the sound of the waves crashing in the background.

Room Service – In-room dining is available from both The Terrace and The Mermaid during restaurant hours. We ordered room service dinner just one evening when we shared the mouthwatering Jerk Lamb Pops appetizer and Crispy Thai Chicken entrée.

Fun Fact: The Sugar Mill, a private dining location at The Buccaneer, is a long time popular location for weddings but you may be surprised to learn that it was the site of a romantic one-on-one dinner on “The Bachelor” ABC television show. Resort guests can reserve the Sugar Mill for private dinners.
