The Joinery Hotel – Pittsburgh, PA

The Joinery Hotel in Pittsburgh, PA is part of Hilton Hotels “Curio Collection”, which they define as, “a global portfolio of unique, hand-picked upscale luxury hotels, each with its own distinct story, design and local character, offering an authentic, memorable stay while still providing the reliability and benefits of the Hilton brand”.

The Joinery Hotel building started life in the 1920’s as a Salvation Army chapel. What is the lobby today includes the original stage and bottom row of wood paneling, helping to give the Joinery a unique and deeply local vibe. The hotel adds to this authentically Pittsburgh feel by incorporating local artwork, books and records in and around the property. It was/is anything but a cookie cutter hotel feel and I look forward to going back on my next trip to Pittsburgh

I was in town for a Pittsburgh Steelers game. The Joinery location made it easy to get to the stadium via the local light-rail system. And after the game we were able to easily walk back to the hotel.

From the moment I arrived, the experience was just what I hoped for — well priced, stylish, comfortable, and perfectly located. The hotel has a hip yet refined vibe that feels both relaxed and elevated, making it a great choice whether you’re traveling for fun or business.

📍 Location

One of the best parts of staying here is the location in downtown Pittsburgh. You can easily walk to excellent restaurants, bars, entertainment venues, and shopping, which made exploring the city so convenient and fun. It’s also close to cultural hotspots like Market Square and the Cultural District, where you’ll find theaters, galleries, and lively outdoor spaces.

🛏️ Room & Ambience

My room was clean, quiet, and perfectly suited for a good night’s sleep, which is exactly what I want in a hotel. The design strikes a nice balance between modern comfort and boutique charm, and although the rooms aren’t oversized, they’re thoughtfully arranged and well-maintained.

🏨 Hotel Amenities

Joinery offers a solid range of amenities that add value to your stay:

  • On-site dining at The Millhouse, a restaurant and bar with bold, globally inspired dishes and a great wine/cocktail program — ideal for dinner or drinks without leaving the hotel.
  • A comfortable lounge area in the lobby with a bar and a coffee-bar that makes the space perfect for relaxing and meeting others.
  • Fitness center for staying active on the road.
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi and helpful 24/7 front desk/concierge services.
  • There’s also a 10th-floor rooftop terrace with great views of the city. This is a spot I’ll explore on a warmer season trip to the Joinery.

The staff was friendly and attentive, which really enhanced the overall experience from check-in to departure. They were great.

🍽️ Nearby Eats & Activities

Because of its central location, you’re steps away from dozens of great dining options — from upscale steakhouses like Eddie V’s Prime Seafood and The Capital Grille and Valozzi’s Italian to casual spots and lively pubs.

For sightseeing and activities, downtown Pittsburgh has plenty to offer:

  • Market Square – a historic piazza filled with restaurants and outdoor seating, incluing casual dining locations like Primanti Brothers and the Original Oyster House, both local favorites.
  • Cultural District – home to theaters, galleries, and performing arts venues.
  • Riverfront parks and trails – perfect for a scenic stroll along the Allegheny River. You can also rent and take a bike from the hotel lobby and ride along the bike trail along the river.
  • Museums and historic landmarks — all within walking distance or a short ride away.
  • Sporting venues – We took the local light rail to Acrisure Stadium. It also goes right past PNC Park. That said, you can walk to either in 20 to 30 minutes. And the same goes for PPG Arena. Just a 10 minute walk away.

Overall

This hotel is a fantastic home base for exploring Pittsburgh. Between the awesome location, comfortable, local feel and stylish rooms, and solid amenities, I couldn’t have asked for a better stay. I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking to experience the city on foot while still enjoying a quality hotel experience!
